Had to admit I had my reservations about this section because there were 2 pillars and top rails replaced so I was hoping the destination box would align up with everything else and go back in OK.

I placed the rear emergency door on today.
Because there are new sections of frame here, new holes had to be tapped and the door took some time to get aligned properly.

Not happy with what I did today.
This was a slow job to do. This section has to go on first before the exit door. I wasn't happy with the fit so flattened the short edge again and closed it up marginally.
Because this one is so much more accurate than the original I had to do some work on the corners where it sits so I had to get the dremel out to get right into the corners to tidy it up.

I made a template, made sure it fitted than transfered it onto the panel.
The contour gauge has seen better days.

Just in comparison, because I was working right next door to the Leyland,
thought I would show you what I have to contend with when it's turn is due.

Well, I have made a start with putting some of the panels back on.
Mainly to get them out of the way to make way for others that need attention.
Even in my shed space is a premium. Because they have to go back in a particular order I have to check to see which ones have to go on first.
This one is definitely one that has to go on first at the rear.
I was a little concerned that I was going to have trouble making the panel fit on the near side, mainly because in its career it had a bingle and the repair was ordinary.

Around the destination box and the Route number above it the aluminium has to be folded over onto the steel.
That is why it is vital that the order of panels is important.
Peeling off again of the aluminium could cause fractures in the fold.

Picked up the new mudguard surrounds

Been a long time since I used the hand riveter. Good to get the skills working again.
I have to take the arrow indicator apart because it is damaged.
They used solid rivets in days gone by.

These old backings for the arrow indicator box had that many holes that it was easier to make new ones
I started the new panel this afternoon. The measurement of the section in the middle has to be exact.

I was going to this weekend start putting some of the panels back on including the back emergency door.
Unfortunately this panel which the door hinges sit on is too far gone.
I decided that patching it wasn't an option.
It has to be weather proof.
Water can go behind the door and if it doesn't seal water can get inside. I will be making a new section.

This is the reason why I think that after 60 odd years buses of this era when being renovated should be taken completely apart.
The only real way to see how they are underneath that skin.
