Mechanical April
- Norman Julian 18 Apr
- I found an older photo.
- Not sure whether I posted it before.
- Gregor Neil Robertson
- Good old straightforward engineering.
- No pretentious over sophisticated auxiliaries - should keep going forever.
- In past few weeks in our garage we have TX taxis, around 2012, with Italian engines.
- Super performers - but cleverly designed with rockers which will break if the cam belt does, to avoid major internal damage.
- Trouble is the rockers break in normal service!
- There is one engine, can’t remember which, which has thinner pushrods which will bend to avoid valves damaging pistons!
- A better idea.
- Mind you, getting 40 or 50 mpg is an undeniable benefit.
- But I’m happy with 30mpg from a much older engine which I can easily maintain.
- The most modern I get is the M47R engine in my Freelander, found in lots of Rovers too.
- Great engineering but about 30 mpg.
