Need a softer compound rubber

Frank Bugby Both the Leyland frog and the AEC had 2 thinner sections of rubber that made up the thickness I have here. I'm starting to wonder if they had problems back in the early days and the thicker rubber was replaced with 2 thinner rubbers.
