Body April

Norman Julian 26 Apr
Hello everyone.
Today I attempted to do something with the AEC so I placed the oval fixed windows above the regular windows so as to put back in the right position the upper aluminium part of the sliding window.
By doing that all the existing rivet holes that are in all the aluminium parts lign up with the holes in the body panels of the bus and will all lign up exactly the way it was originally.
Getting up and down 3 steps about 30 times has tired me out.
Glad I did something though.

Beersie time?

The job from hell.
Because my concentration level is at an all-time low I thought I would do a job that doesn't require too much thought. This is part of the guttering that goes the length of the bus on both sides and all the way round at the front.
It is mangled and twisted and really awkward to strip the paint off.
The rounded piece you can see was sitting flat on both ends but on the curve was sitting in the air about 6mm.
There was bog or something making up the difference.
About 30 minutes later it is now sitting flat on the bench.
Now to even up the channel.
This is going to take a while.

Norman Julian This little piece alone took an hour to get right.

You love the pain Norm have fun

At least a two man job.
Best with three of you.
Robert Stevenson
Silly quantities of endone have been doing that to me for around 18 months now thanks to the car driver that didn't see a 120 plus kg rider on a Harley with its headlight on.
Norman Julian
I had quite a bit of Endone with the other hip a few years ago but this time round I never had it.

Keep on keeping on Norm that includes YOUR COOL

This is what I use to take paint, and in this case really thick body filler off aluminum.
I rarely use a wire brush on an angle grinder because it gouges the aluminium quite easily.
These strippet discs are not harsh and don't heat up the metal.
I have used these on past restorations and are brilliant on most metals.
This sander/polisher is set on the lowest speed, at that speed which is around 1800rpm you have better control.
These gutter pieces are very much mangled so here I have started with stripping off the bottom and once that is done I can place it on a flat surface and straighten it out.

interesting tutorial!

Where did you get them from Norm Julian. Been looking everywhere for these things.
Our local hardware used to sell them but not any more.
Great product and seem to last a long time.
Norman Julian
Peter Velthuis what did you call me!

HaHa Julian.
Sorry Norman.
Thanks for the link.
Norman Julian
I originally bought a box of 10.
I have 3 full ones left.
That box has stripped back 2 cars and most of this bus project.
Plus panels from other peoples cars.
None of the wheels are all gone.
Some are small that you can put them on small angle grinders, but I haven't

Hey Norman, any chance of sending me the link also please? :D
