1952 AEC Regal III [2547]
2019
Mechanical June
- Norman Julian 1 Jun
- I repainted 2 items today.
- A new gasket to replace the broken one and part of the wheel stud section that is seen will be painted black tomorrow.
- Charles Shipway
- Things look and sound fairly well under control Norm
- By the way I am impressed with the storage boxes fitted to the wall looks like it is easy to work with them
- Robert Stevenson
- Can never have enough screws and bolts
- Norman Julian 6 Jun
- I'm still not ready to get back to the bigger heavier stuff yet so I'm doing small jobs like this.
- I am not happy with the way this hub is finished off with studs and nuts.
- One stud was replaced with a bolt so it was all over the place.
- I made a new stud from another bolt and replaced the nuts with dome nuts or acorn nuts.
- The AEC wheel badges are being remade in aluminium.
- Norman Julian
- I cut a new stud from this old bolt that was long and had only a short thread.
- I cut the old thread off and recut a new thread and then cut the head off to make a new stud.
- James Leonard Garrod
- Playin' with your little nuts again, ya fuckin' Idiot?
- Leave 'em alone, they'll Drop Orf when they're Ripe!
- Norman Julian
- You're a class act, James!
- Gregor Neil Robertson
- Good work Norman.
- Keep it up!
- How about restoring some bus stops and shelters?!
- Here's my Bedford, finally taking to the road.
- Running very sweetly -so far.
- Should be fit for our local classic Rally in a month.
- South East Scotland.
- Norman Julian
- She's a beaut!
- Gregor Neil Robertson
- And me and the '77 Austin FX4 taxi at a Rally last weekend. 2.5 diesel.
- I can't drive it in my home city as LEZ rules prevent all high emission cars in city centres here (low emission zones) - not good news for Vintage Bus owners who need to apply for exemptions for special events.
- Gregor Neil Robertson
- And my stepson's ex- London taxi, also banned because of emission controls.
- These excellent cabs are now being scrapped.
- Absolutely ridiculous.
- Gregor Neil Robertson
- It's got a 2.7 Nissan engine.
- All these superb cabs cannot be driven in our cities.
- The black cab trade is really suffering as the alternative is the very expensive new electric cab.
- £60k.
- Norman Julian
- The world has gone mad, Gregor Neil Robertson
- Norman Julian
- We just had a country election here and thank the gods the Labour party didn't get in because one of the foolish ideas was to have 50% of the new cars coming into the country by 2030 to be electric.
- Gregor Neil Robertson Norman Julian aye indeed.
- They're all out of step except us!
- Peter Hanson
- Burn more oil, burn more coal and burn the bloody greenies.
- Charles Shipway
- Norm I like the idea of newly made wheel badges it would be a pity to fit the old ones again
- Robert Stevenson
- Would the old girl have been based on a Mandator?
- Norman Julian
- Not sure how to answer that. It was always going to be a bus and built on a bus frame. A Mandator/Matador would be a much shorter wheel base.
- The engines are smaller on these trucks and would have had a transfer case etc, so totally different.
- The wheels and hubs etc may have been the same with the same emblems on the hubs.
- Norman Julian 6 Jun
- While I was arranging the new AEC badges for the wheels I was asking about making new scrolls and it sounds promising. I can get stencils made. The actual printing is up to me.
- I did screen printing when I was younger.
- Getting an actual original scroll will be the hard part.
- I will be pursuing it in the future.
- Norman Julian
- This is how it looked originally
- Norman Julian 20 Jun
- I picked these up and pleased with the result
- Charles Shipway
- The results are very good no wonder your pleased Norm as good as it gets or better than new aren’t they ?
- John Clarke
- Dress rims next!
- Norman Julian
- Do you want to be banned from this page John Clarke.
- John Clarke
- Woops!
- Catherine Norman
- Don't worry Norm a good slapping will bring him to his senses then again he might enjoy it lol
- Norman Julian
- This is the TD5 John.
- Look at what is on the front wheel.
- They only lasted on there till I got her home then they were off it.
- They are the most hidious thing anyone could ever put on a bus.
- Norman Julian
- John Clarke I let you stay this time John Clarke
- John Clarke
- I was agreeing with you!
- Norman Julian
- John Clarke just kidding my friend.
- Hehehehe
- John Clarke
