Beautiful work.
Congratulations.

I was arguing with myself for a while, should I take the roof off or not.
In the end only because it was hail damaged.

A BIT OF HISTORY UP IN FLAMES
It's always sad when you hear of a loss of an old friend - even if its made of steel.
I was saddened to hear that a fire, thought to be arson had destroyed one of my old exNSW Government buses.
AEC Regal IV (ExMO2788) was built in 1954.
It had a 9.6 litre 6 cylinder diesel engine and a 4 speed Wilson preselector gearbox.
In service it seated 43 passengers
I owned the bus for about 8 years and hand painted it on at least two occasions plus did much mechanical work..
When fully registered we took church youth groups on camps to Narrabeen and the Megalong Valley.
She was a lovely old bus to drive. My kids enjoyed the 'dungeon' a step down section at the rear of 2788.
Photo - 2788 after a repaint at Winmalee 1983 and a line drawing now hanging on our wall, done by a young guy I worked with.

Presumably at least the remaining chassis will donate parts for other restorations ... engine and all heavy parts Should have survived?
Norman Julian
It was a pretty intense fire Gregor.
There wasn't much of anything left to salvage.

Norman Julian half shafts?
Gearbox?
What a bloody tragedy.
Norman Julian
That was surprising to hear that the engines were the same size as the frogs.
Thought because the Leyland underfloors had a bigger engine than the Leyland frogs that the AEC buses would be the same.

2788 was next on my to do list after 2619 but unfortunately I didn't get to it in time

Went exploring in the bush today and came across this.
It's got me buggered how it got there or how long it's been there because it's pretty dense bush and roug...

Might be a AEC Regent or Regent III rebody
Norman Julian
The only useful thing left on that is what came from England.
The rest is history.
Ben Summers
Unless someone built a new body.
Norman Julian
Ben Summers not likely!
Ben Summers
Even I'm not crazy enough to do that!
Norman Julian
Ben Summers nor I
Ben Summers
I am crazy enough to think of doing it .

Thank you.
I am a vintage trailer enthusiast.
I am in the planning stages of a restoration of a 1937 or 38 Bender Travel Mansion, built by Bender Body Company, a now defunct coach builder.
Bender built buses in the 1930s and their travel trailers were built similar to their buses.
I found your impressive group/site this morning.
I plan to read all your posts.
I appreciate all that you have shared.
Thank you!
Norman Julian
Nice to have you on board.
There is plenty to see and read and another 2 groups with projects just like this.
