June Discussion
Norman Julian 3 June
I started the Albion yesterday and was tempted in trying her out after putting the axles back in.
I went through the gears while it was idling.
The 1st to second looks really long and 3rd to 4th is shorter [that's how it felt to me].
Anyway, I never had any shudder in first or second gear but and I mean but it is hard for a novice like myself going from 1st to second without the gearbox crying out for help.
Yeah I understand you listen to revs etc etc but I don't speak Crunchy gearbox language.
I need a lot of work in that area and I never even got the thing into 3rd yet.
I guess it would help if my legs were shorter or I could get the seat pushed back to the 3rd row of seats in the passenger area.
LOL
Peter Hanson
It always was a long throw from 1st to 2nd, Norman.
We used to say you had to take one step forward to engage 1st, also stand up to get enough leverage to pull the steering wheel around on tight corners etc.
Norman Julian
Ha ha yeah I saw someone do that somewhere!
Garth Taylor
It is not unusual to crunch the gears when you are new to the gearbox.
If you have mechanical empathy, you will master it quickly

I'd say this would be the first time the old girl had snow on her roof. It only took 75 years.

Norman Julian Not sure what year Alan Fletcher aquired it from QOCS with a partly dismantled motor.
He re-engined it with 1972's heart and soul.
