Today I had a go at putting the rear axles back into the Albion.
You can't mistake the side each one goes on.
One is shorter than the other. What does take a few seconds to soak in is which way it goes in.
The spline is the same on both ends but one side is flat to the spline and the other has a protruding slightly tapering piece.
I guess that is to guide that end into its corresponding spline in the diff.
I got the short axle in but having a little trouble with the longer one on the offside.
Never had to do this before so any tricks would be appreciative.
Looking at the wheel hub its hard to believe that is all driving the wheels.

Full floating axles! Usually with heavy vehicles the drive plate is part of the shaft.
If the end of the shaft has a threaded hole then I'd add a handle to help with poking it back onto the splines in the diff.

OK I understand.
I would have to make something.
I must have been lucky with the nearside and being shorter I could lever it central easier.

Thornycroft duffs were much the same.
Also Foden and Leyland reduction hub diffs.
No easy way to put them in

I ended up getting it back in folks.
Thanks for the comments.

We are impressed.
These heavy parts must place some stress on you, so, be careful of your well-being!
Norman Julian
Will do thanks Gregor!
