August Body

For those that are new to this site this is 2818.
A Sydney based Leyland that I picked up a few years ago.
The previous owners son was going to destroy her by using a backhoe.
Fortunately the machine broke down before it did too much more damage.
The hope is to restore her back to what she was from after her last overhaul, not new as I am doing with AEC 2547.
She will have the same colour scheme as she has now.
I know there is a lot of work but I'm up to the challenge.

Jason Garland
Close call from the vandal !!
Chris Dempsey
It looks someone farted to hard and blew rear out
Norman Julian
Baked beans a plenty hey Chris?
Greg Scott
What sort of a moron puts a backhoe into the rear end of a vintage bus ? Should be tried for a criminal act ! You may be looking for an emergency exit rear door as we'll norm ?
Norman Julian
I'm not sure why he did it Greg but to him it was just an I sore sitting in the yard. His father used to go in it on camping trips not too far from where it sat for 18 years after his father last parked it. It was around 12 months before I got it he tr...See more

Rear end damage

Greg Scott
yep glad the backhoe broke down
Catherine Norman
You're a brave boy Norm I wouldn't even attempt one that badly damaged my hat off to you
Norman Julian
It is a challenge.
If this had happened back when it was in service I'm pretty sure it would have been withdrawn from service.
Rusty Williams
have you thought about looking for another 31 seater with a good back half & the rest wrecked just a thought!
Norman Julian
That's the plan, Rusty.
Rusty Williams
there are a few around you could ask the parker boys out at winsor sydney!
John Clarke
Any idea how many 31 seaters, Leyland and AEC there are out there?
I would assume all the Daimlers are extinct?
As we know, they say that the frog is nature's barometer!
Ben Summers
Ahem, John!
We have one at The Sydney Bus Museum.
John Clarke
Sorry, Ben Summers!
I did know that!
And fabbo that you do!
I meant in the great unknown, And, I am looking forward to visiting the museum, as a Novocastrian I am a proud Leylander!
Norman Julian
The series 2 Leyland Frogs are very scarce.
That's one of the reason for me restoring this.
John Clarke
Is the difference between the two series the fact that one was built on a double deck chassis?
Norman Julian
There is that but there are also cosmetic changes
Ben Summers
All good John :).
Norman Julian
There are at least 3 Daimlers that I know off, John Clarke.
One in the museum.
1 being restored as we speak, and another I saw recently on the back of a truck somewhere.
Scott Wilson
Ben Summers.
No we don't.
It's a 1st series.
Ben Summers
Sorry Scott, I was referring to the Museum's Daimler.
I should have been clearer.
Norman Julian This is the Daimler I saw last year on Facebook.
I don't know if anyone knows anything about this other than the owner wants to restore it.
Scott Wilson
Norman Julian.
Its at Hilltop.
Near Picton.
Mech stripped.
2694?
Rusty Williams
a few around as sheds up here in nth qld
Ben Summers
Bloody hell!
Are you going to restore it, Norman?
Norman Julian
Yes Ben Summers.
Ben Summers
Good luck!
Norman Julian
I will need it.
The back end isn't the problem as much as the rust in the rest of it.
It needs to be done though.
Norman Julian 7 Aug
This is strange going ons.
The change in the weather has started to take the paint off.
Saves me doing it I guess.
