1939 Leyland TD5 [1635]
2017
December Body
First visual Inspection at my place
- Norman Julian 11th Dec
- 1635 d/decker: Looks like there will be some work to do afterall.
- This was just a quick observation.
- Gregor Neil Robertson
- Still, it’s looking pretty good.
- The air must be very dry there.
- Of course we’re stuck with high humidity summer and winter.
- Prevention of corrosion a constant series of battles.
- Red Lead, Hammerite, Waxoyl etc etc
- Norman Julian
- From what I can see from this angle from the gussets [triangle thingys] up look OK but wont know for sure till I take the skin off.
- David Wilson
- looks pretty solid
- Norman Julian
- It does David.
- I remember getting under the AEC for the first time and knew I was in for a lot of work.
- More so with the Leyland frog.
- This though it is a bit of a mystery at the moment.
- There is work to be done around the rear fork area floor.
- Radiata timber was used there which is no good.
- The floor though in the passenger area looks good.
- All the bearers look solid enough. As I said all the pillars above the gussets as far as I could see look OK.
- Norman Julian
- The steel L shaped steel end that the floor boards finish on the side with are rusted through in some areas.
- These floorboards are not tongue and grooved which means I can remove the end pieces and replace that steel relatively
- Norman Julian
- In between each steel floor bearer evenly spaced is a piece of timber, surprisingly enough they aren't rotton.
- Norman Julian
- The timber flooring seems to be good.
- Feral Pigeon
- Rust in that part of the top-hat section is common as after all the water had nowhere to drain to.
- Norman Julian Dec 12
- Adrian Spencer
- Have you found any wide life under there?
- Greg Scott
- To me norm those beams are immaculate ! Lol
- Norman Julian 24th Dec
- Lucky she will have a roof over her head soon.
- Doubt whether Rare Spares would have a replacement rear emergency door for a 1939 Leyland bus in stock.
- Fortunately for me this looks to be a straight forward rectangular frame.
- Norman Julian
- Doesn't show up in this picture too well but the bottom of the frame is gone.
