- Norman Julian 25 May
- I finally made up my mind on what I will use to get up high on the Decker.
- I was looking at a scissor lift.
- Then scafolding.
- Then there was a picking platform ladder.
- None of these really met the requirements. It ended up being a pair of 3.6 metre d/sided step ladders.
- This decicion was made because of the slope at the front and back of the bus.
- With any of the others they wouldn't get close enough and I would have had to reach over but with the ladders and plank I can put them on either side of the bus and move in the plank right up close.
- Being the cheaper option overall certainly does help but not the deciding factor.
- Greg Gibson
- All the scissor lifts I have used have a slide out section on the platform to make it canter levered and can reach most things this way.
- Norman Julian
- That's only if it is end on.
- I don't have the space.
- Greg Gibson
- Norman Julian bugger
- Norman Julian
- I don't have deep pockets to build an enormous shed to manoeuvre around to much.
- Charles Shipway
- Norman very good choice in my opinion I found when tile laying at height nothing was easier and safer than ladders and planks to carry out the work
- Norman Julian
- Out of everything I looked at Charles I liked the platform ladder but as I said because of the front and back slope I wouldn't be able to get close enough.
- I have to admit I'm not wild about getting up and walking on planks at that height.
- I will get used to it though.
- Joshua Power
- Scissor lift is best option so easy for doing stuff at musuem then dragging scaffolding everywhere
- Charles Shipway
- Norman practise makes perfect I know the feeling mate may I suggest you practise climbing up and down the ladder only to start of WHATEVER you don’t look down Keep your eyes focused towards the bus looking at it focused at 90o [this helps reduce distress
- When you feel comfortable clime the ladder and get your balance on the plank AGAIN Don’t look down and eye ball the surface directly in front of you then as you gain you plank legs Then is the TIME to start getting used to loading the plank
- After a bit of practice you will gain confidence and feel safe to concentrate on the job Norman this method takes the fear out of it most people don’t give themselves the time to gain full confidence before they start
- I have mentioned this method in detail simply to maybe help you to gain your legs
- We both know when you don’t climb regularly it can be daunting practise makes perfect
- All the best Norman I hope my suggestions are accepted as just a helpful hint of my experience over the years
- Charles Shipway
- Joshua Power
- As Norman mentioned space within the shed is lacking may be it could be awkward turning the machine and getting close to the bus in his shed
- Joshua Power
- They have a good turning circle , it’s tight at musuem in the sheds
- Norman Julian
- This is why.
- I would have to use ladders and plank anyway to get close to the front upstairs so I might as well just have ladders. The back is just as slopy
- Simon Ford
- Might I suggest a mobile scaffold as a middle of the road option
- Indeed maybe test out a scissor lift (rent one for a day?if successful, lease rather than buy?)
- Just a thought
- James Leonard Garrod
- I always thought you were a Plonker when all along you were a 'Planker' as well!
- Norman Julian 29th May
- I went and picked up these 2 monsters today.
- They came a little earlier than was told initially.
- These and their smaller 3 metre brother will do nicely.
- I took a shot on the 3rd rung down of the ladder of the top of the roof and now for the first time you can see the clearance between the door and the roof.
- It looks to me about 200mm clearance.
- This bus is a little shorter than I thought.
- Now I can start on the back upper exit window.
- David Wilson
- what was thge price of those ladders each Norm please
- Norman Julian
- The 3 metre was $500 and the 2 x 3.6 metre were $609 each.
- Charles Shipway
- Those ladders look the bees knees Norman Julian problem solved hay
- Norman Julian
- Not frightened up the top Charles Shipway.
- They are very sturdy.
- Steve Hardie
- Spend alittle more and get some rigging Harnesses because it again the fall that hurts its the sudden stop at the bottom and as it is it a14 ft 4inche fall.
- Norman Julian
- Sorry but I nearly had an accident because of that bullshit.
