- Chris Dempsey 9 Jun
- Scholes Bus Service Pixie Leyland TD5 m/o-182 ex 1562 at the depot Merewether 17/8/1969.
- Photographer John Ward picture from Living Histories @ UON website
- Norman Julian
- A real survivor to last that long.
- Ben Summers
- Georgetown Bus Service also had a TD5 which lasted that long.
- Rusty Williams
- all their buses had names.
- like PIXIE 1 & 2 ECT
- Norman Julian
- Mine apparently didn't have an afterlife.
- Andrew Blacklock
- Was there Pixie and Dixie ?
- Rusty Williams
- yes.
- Rusty Williams
- both 1 & 2 I think.
- Jeffrey Bounds
- Are they still around?
- Rusty Williams
- that and other private bus companys around newcastle all went years ago only private ones now are ex blue ribbon /cdc port stephens and rovers bus busways.
- Rusty Williams
- not my pics heres were it ended up near newcastle NMP
- Norman Julian 15 Jun
- Anyone guess as to how old this is and what she is!
- Royce Webster
- early 1960s vintage...probably 63...oh it’s a bus
- Brian Blunt
- The body might be, but the chassis could be much older.
- Ben Summers
- According to Scott Wilson, it is 1455 Leyland TD4 reportedly.
- Using 1579 at The Sydney Bus Museum as a guide, the bus pictured is from at least 1936/37.
- Norman Julian
- RTS8 Fleet number is 1455 by Olding and Sons 1938.
- Kuringai Bus Co. Only 3 vehicles were made.
- Ben Summers RTS8?
- Bob Gioia
- Very rare vehicle.
- Bryce Pender
- Next addition to the collection Norman?
- At least if only to stop it being destroyed.
- David Wilson
- originally a 1/2 cab refronted by Comeng after a pretty severe front ender in 1959.
- Norman Julian
- Bryce Pender I think so Bryce, if only to save it from oblivion.
- I need another storage container for the Leyland Frog when I pull it down.
- Norman Julian
- This is a single decker bus with basically the same running gear as a TD4 or 5.
- Engine and gearbox the same as the deckers.
- A great spare parts vehicle and a storage shed.
- Ben Summers
- So it is not ex DGT?
- David Wilson
- it is an ex DGT 1/2 cab single decker - sold to Kuringai Bus Service in 1952.
- It was refronted after a bad accident in 1959.
- Chassis is Leyland TS-8 essentially theh same as a TD-5
- Dennis Boros
- That one would definitely be worth saving.
- Ben Summers
- Agree there, Dennis.
- I'd put a replica halfcab body on it too.
- Chris Dempsey
- Leyland RTS8 1455
- Unknown owner, Lightning Ridge NSW ['71]
- ex Flemington Bus Sales for resale [6/71]…See more
- Norman Julian
- You're smart man Chris.
- David Wilson
- I saw that on Fleetlist but it omits to say that it ran as M/o 4103 for awhile with Oatley Bus Serv
- Chris Dempse 23 Jun
- Rover Motors 11 Leyland TD1 ex 1005.
- Picture from the Ken Magor collection
- Norman Julian
- That's impressive!
- Norman Julian
- That would be a wooden frame.
- James Leonard Garrod
- I'd own that - Rover could really run riot in it!
- Chris Dempsey23 Jun
- 1336 Thornycroft Daring right-hand view.
- Photographer unknown picture source unknown
- Norman Julian
- That's smart looking!
- James Leonard Garrod
- What engine would this bus use?
- Chris Dempsey 23 Jun
- Two views of 1336
- Brian Blunt
- Interesting that the stairs come almost to the edge of the back platform. And no side desto box.
- David Wilson
- remember these early dds had narrower bodies -7'6"
- Anthony Christie
- Look very much like departmental photographs.
- What was the first steel bodied Double Decker for the DRTT David Wilson?
- David Wilson
- the first were 4 built by Clyde 1213 1217 1220 1221 all 1936.
- First Waddington was 1229.
- Chris Dempsey 23 Jun
- Talking about 1006 chassis being fitted with the body of AEC Regent 1189 how about this one a Leyland TD1 fitted with the body of the only Thornycroft Daring double decker 1336 to see government service in Sydney and went in service with Henson Bus Service in Wollongong sadly this was scrapped but 1336 chassis still exist at the bus museum I hope.
- Photographer Vic Hayes picture source unknown
- Norman Julian
- That body looks high on the chassis.
- Chris Dempsey
- At least worked when it came needing a bus Norm
- David Wilson
- photographer was the late Vic Hayes
- Norman Julian
- Love to have it!
- David Wilson
- I'd be happy with just the TD-1 chassis !
- Chris Dempsey 19 Jun
- Want to have a go at restoring this Norm might take you twenty years but hey Toronto Motor Service AEC Renown m/o-619 ex 10 (1010).Photographer unknown picture from Google images
- Rusty Williams
- I allways thought that bus went to ROVER MOTERS cessnock.
- Din't it have a large middle door on the bottom deck.
- Brian Blunt
- Rusty Williams has Toronto on the sign
- Norman Julian
- That's a big bus
- John Clarke
- You're going to need a bigger shed.
- Norman Julian
- The shed is full
- John Clarke
- Norman Julian Have you seen "Jaws"?
- I was (slightly) misquoting!
- Norman Julian
- That bus is as long as a leopard I'd say.
- Bob Gioia
- How can you restore something that doesn't exist?
- Norman Julian
- Ha ha
- That's a good question, Bob!
- Norman Julian
- That looks like it would have been more than a handful to drive.
- David Wilson
- it was a mechanical preselector
- Anthony Christie
- Rovers bought a large amount of vehicles from the DRTT during this era.
- They scrapped numerous for parts and rebuilt many.
- 1010 was onsold to Toronto.
- They bought the mangled body of 1189 and placed it on the chassis of a burnt out TD1.
- Unfortunately many rare beasts such as the AEC Q's did not escape as body parts and chassis bits were canibalised.
- It would be amazing if the chassis of a Q turned up on a farm somewhere as a trailer.
- Rusty Williams
- I thought I saw a pic of 1010 ay rovers it had a centre door.
- Anthony Christie
- Rusty Williams no you're thinking of old number 15 a timber framed leyland decker purchased by them new. Hope you're keeping well Rusty.
- David Wilson
- It has been discvered that No 15 was a very rare (in Australia) Leyland TD-7.
- It would seem that when it was first built as, it was looked at by the DRTT, but the war got in the way of TD-7s making it into the Governmnet fleet
- Anthony Christie
- David Wilson gee that is interesting to know.
- Ben Summers
- No. 15 was new to Rover Motors in 1939, Anthony Christie.
- Anthony Christie
- Ben Summers and ended up at Chapmans in Newcastle known as Matilda.
- When it was new it was displayed at the Consevatorium if Music in Sydney.
- Ben Summers Wow!
- David Wilson
- It was also at LInsleys and ended up at Chapmans -where it was burnt out.Or was it the other way round ?
- Rusty Williams
- Anthony Christie thats the bus I was talking about had a middle door on lower deck only
- Anthony Christie
- David Wilson i think it went to Chapmans then Linsleys then back to Chapmans.
- David Wilson
- you could be right.
- I've seen a picture of it with Linsleys somewhere
·
- Rover Motors 15 Leyland TD7 MO-493 leading a bus parade down Vincent Street Cessnock with one of the AEC Qs behind 15.
- Picture from the Ken Magor collection
- Ben Summers
- A lot of those buildings are there today and still used.
- Rusty Williams
- Good old vincent street now no more semis 24/7 there as they use the new by-pass freeway its a plesure to go there now.
- Ben Summers
- It's busy enough without trucks.
