Discussion and Information March
- Norman Julian 19 Mar
- For those of you that are new to this group, thanks for wanting to be a part of it and since I have had the OPD2/1 Leyland she has been under cover.
- Last year I have this new shed to house the 3 projects under one roof.
- I have been spending the majority of the time on the AEC but last winter I made a start on the TD5.
- This winter I will be starting on this challenging project.
- Malcolm Pearson
- nice buses, great shed too :)
- I had an old 50's bedford back in early 80's
- Peter Phelan
- That's exactly the figure I read about at least thirty years ago.
- Not that I believe it.
- Norman Julian
- The chassis is approximately 2/3rds the weight of the bus, so all the weight is down the bottom holding it firmly to the ground.
- Peter Phelan.

- Norman Julian And what is that piece of metal stuck against the front tyre ?
- And probably rear as well.
- This test is irrelevant, there's no way it would defy gravity or centrifugal force whilst in motion.
- And I suppose all the top passengers would race down to maintain the centre of gravity.
- Norman Julian
- I agree with you.
- I have said as such before.
- This test only proves that it can tilt to that degree of angle and that the majority of the weight is at the bottom.

- LOL
- Norman Julian
- Already being restored, Mark!
- Rusty Williams

- Norman Julian
- God not those blessed wheel trims again!
- Scott Wilson
- Norman Julian They are the proper ones, not the U/F red caps.
- Norman Julian
- Scott Wilson.
- Putting a dress rim on a Sydney D/Decker is like painting a Ferrari pink.
- LOL.
- Norman Julian
- I was going to give the Sydney Bus Museum a $1000.00 donation to buy all of their dress rims and get them to sign a contract to never again put them on any of their buses.
- LOL
- John Clarke
- They look so wrong!
- I've never seen a Newcastle decker, frog or underfloor with them.
- Like lipstick on a pig.
- Graeme Knappick
- Norman Julian agreed, they look ridiculous.
- Graeme Knappick
- John Clarke spot on.
- David Wilson
- They are OK if they are appropriate as above on the Dion OPD2.
- Government sds and dds carried them in the 1930s for some years and teh new postwar Leylands (OPD1s) carried them for a very short period in the 1940s.
- It's when they are applied to the workhorses of the 1950s-70s that never carried them, that is so irksome.
- A reflection of poor knowledge and sensitivity to what preserved buses really are about
- Norman Julian
- I was not even a glitter in my parents eyes in the forties, David so I never got used to them.
- I'm used to them on the Pommie buses but not ours.
