For those that don't know, buses are put into categories.
Two of those is "Prewar" and "Postwar". This bus was put into the "prewar" category.
What if it was started after the war had begun. Does that make it a "during war" or "war time".
Brian Blunt
Not many bus chassis were built during the war
Norman Julian
So your saying they go on when the chassis was made, not when the body starts and finishes?
Graeme Knappick
Yes ‘Wartime’ I guess.
Garry Coxhead
The chassis would have been ordered prewar so I think fair to say prewar.
Postwar buses are those delivered after the war the first being 1763.
However, you raise a good question because what should the austerity buses be classified as, maybe "wartime emergency buses"?
Brian Blunt
That is a good description.
The chassis were converted from truck chassis, released under special dispensations.
Peter Phelan
Why did they move so much between depots ?
Norman Julian
For all we know the chassis could have been in England since 1937

I'm sorry I can't credit the photographer, possibly a press pic.
That would have hurt the old girl.
