Discussion September
- Norman Julian 4th Sep
- For those that don't know, buses are put into categories.
- Two of those is "Prewar" and "Postwar". This bus was put into the "prewar" category.
- What if it was started after the war had begun. Does that make it a "during war" or "war time".
- Brian Blunt
- Not many bus chassis were built during the war
- Norman Julian
- So your saying they go on when the chassis was made, not when the body starts and finishes?
- Graeme Knappick
- Yes ‘Wartime’ I guess.
- Garry Coxhead
- The chassis would have been ordered prewar so I think fair to say prewar.
- Postwar buses are those delivered after the war the first being 1763.
- However, you raise a good question because what should the austerity buses be classified as, maybe "wartime emergency buses"?
- Brian Blunt
- That is a good description.
- The chassis were converted from truck chassis, released under special dispensations.
- Peter Phelan
- Why did they move so much between depots ?
- Norman Julian
- For all we know the chassis could have been in England since 1937
- John Clarke 26 Sep
- I'm sorry I can't credit the photographer, possibly a press pic.
- That would have hurt the old girl.
