Mechanical Aug

Norman Julian 13th Aug
Progress shot of how the radiator is going.
I worked on the Leyland badge.
Painted the background black.
Not sure if it was that colour but it looks better than the silver.

Dennis Boros
Didn’t look this good when it was new!
Norman Julian
Dennis Boros I wasn't around to see it in 39 so I can't answer that!
LOL
Terry Davis
Great job Norm:
Well done it looks better than new !!!!!!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ
Graeme Knappick

Devaprastha Das
Looks amazing
Norman Julian 23rd Aug
I'm nearly at the half way point with the tubes.
Unfortunately I have found 7 that are blocked.
I cleared all bar 2.
They are completely blocked.
Coming in from both ends about 50mm in the middle will not budge.
Have tried a few things but with no success.
I wont give up just yet but if I can't clear them I will just put them back in the middle row where they are tightly packed in any case and probably wont matter.

Stuart Gale
What material are they norm?
Norman Julian
Stuart Gale the tubes themselves are brass with copper wire forming the loops.
Stuart Gale
Norman Julian ok that rules out a possible solution I had
Norman Julian
Stuart Gale what was that?
Stuart Gale
Norman Julian I cleaned up some old tractor parts soaking them in apple cider vinegar but not sure how that would react with the the copper and brass.
The other was coke, or calcium lime rust CLR chemical but again not sure on the effects on copper and brass
Norman Julian
Stuart Gale I don't think I helped things by using a steel rod and hammering it.
I just compounded the problem.
Stuart Gale
Norman Julian maybe you could soak them in clothes washing detergent like dynamo dad and I soaked stuff for 2499 in tubs of dynamo and they cleaned up a treat..
a slow process but it worked
Norman Julian
Stuart Gale thanks buddy.
Stuart Gale
Norman Julian all good mate your projects are giving me a really nice distraction at the moment.
I’m waiting till I can get to my vintage tractor once we can move around again
Norman Julian
Stuart Gale great to be of service.
Brian Blunt
Stuart Gale Vinegar won't hurt the brass, in fact it's good for getting rid of built up tarnish.
It mightn't get rid of built up silt in tubes though.
Peter Hewat
Grind the end of that rod,bit like a drill.and slowly turn it by hand .soak em maybe first
Norman Julian
Peter Hewat thanks. Good suggestion!
Peter Hewat
Norman Julian p.s no on the hammerπŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜œ
Norman Julian
Peter Hewat I knew the ends would mushroom.
I can cut a little off because they go through the top and bottom tanks about 25mm.
Peter Hewat
Norman Julian you could braze or silver solder a drill bit to that rod..and grind a flat
..or weld a nut on it to turn with ratchet spanner.also
