Finished now and ready to go back in.
Another coat of gloss black.
New gaskets and screws to go with a new screw-on cap and neck.
Inside is now rust free.

I have told people before about how this thing works and what it does but if you are new to this group and missed it originally,
I can explain it again just ask.

The last thing I need to do is this injector pump.
It is showing its age.
I tried to get a few places to inspect it and especially clean it but all I got is negativity.
The pump was working OK so now I will just clean it up the best way I can.
When this is done then I have to sort out that chunk of block that broke off.

I had the same trouble here in perth.
Nobody wanted to know, but eventually found d an old bloke that knew bpe type pumps and had it rebuilt.
Wasn't cheap though

Plus the parts not common now I think that’s fair price

Seems these days something has to be broken to get a decent result.

I guess they could wash it and paint it in silver frost for $50 and you be happy then

I had a lot of experience with that type of pump during the 60s as an apprentice mechanic at Hastings Deerings Lidcombe we had our own pump room and test facility’s there

You've answered your own question when you say it's working.
Don't touch it while its going.
Run a fair bit of fuel doctor through it will clean up the injectors a bit too.

Almost forgot this thing.
This is the first of a few fuel filters this engine has.
The line coming into it on our left comes from the fuel tank.
The fuel goes through this and up into the "auto-vac" from there the fuel is gravity fed into another fuel filter then finally into the injector pump.
This was filthy as to be expected.
I love the brass being polished up.
It looks good.
In the handbook this had a handle, but almost certainly I understand why it was taken off.
In service it would have been an irresistible temptation for a kid or someone to turn the handle and that would have been a real problem because if you turned the fuel supply off there is a process involved to bleed the system.

This job will take me a while because frankly it shits me.
This little section on the right has taken about an hour.
Using a combination of steel wool dipped in old petrol and a wire brush on a drill.
I have also taken off 2 more pipes coming from the underside of the bus coming up through the engine bay.
It is getting there.
I'm also doing the driver's seat on the AEC.
3 jobs going at once.

After I have cleaned it up, I will turn it on its side and fill that area where the springs are which contain the elements with oil and seal it up.

I'm slowly going through the engine pipes.
They need inspecting just like the pipes on the AEC but unlike the AEC these ones I'm going to reuse.
Can't justify the expense and I want to use as many original parts as I can.
Have a look at all the repairs done with brazing.
There are 15 on this pipe alone.
The reason for this is simple "rubbing" on something else and have worn through.
One photo shows a flat spot on an area that will eventually ware through.
This pipe goes from the exhauster to the air-vac.
I take everything off and inspect before it goes back on.

The other day I was checking out a few things on the engine while most of the ancillaries are off and noticed the oil pressure gauge tap was off (I had to trace where the line from the tap went to, that's how I know what it is).
I looked at the flexible line that interconnects from one copper pipe to another and found it to be very brittle. It practically fell apart in my hand.
It took a while to find someone to repair it.
I checked all the copper pipes for leaks.
The other job here is this bar that has a left hand threaded adjuster on one side and standed thread on the other.
This is some sort of radiator stabilizing bar and adjuster.
The bar has a hole in the centre for a screwdriver or something.
Turning the bar one way brings the radiator inwards and the opposite effect going the other way.
The threads were seized quite badly because I couldn't get the bar to do anything.
I worked on it for a while and now it works fine.

Today I put the oil pressure line back on and cleaned, derusted and painted black that little panel behind where the radiator sits.
The copper line did have a little pin hole in the line.
I repaired that and repainted the top radiator adjuster bar.
Also the plate on the top of the generator only had 2 screws holding it together.
Didn't have any screws to fix that problem, so I made 2 round slot head screws from 2 hex head bolts.
