Hi folks! Basically closed up shop for the winter but on the nicer days I can do smaller jobs on the buses.
This one is a bit of a challenge getting the right design.
A pattern of lines adjacent to each other but for the life of me I can't find any supplier that has it.
These are just kick plates that go on the verticals of the staircase.
In the case of this bus, very random.
The very top step has one and the next level down, but the bottom set only has one. There are no holes on some of the bottom set of steps so I'm assuming at some stage some of the metal has been changed and the plates weren't put back on - who knows!
The thing is these are easy to reproduce if I had the right pattern.
These ones are in very poor condition indeed. In any case if I want to put them back on to be original, I want to put them back on each step which means I need 9 not 5. Interestingly enough the very top one was replaced at one time with flat no patterned type.

This bottom vertical tells a story. It has been replaced at least 3 times in its life. See the 3 skins.

David Wilson
every step had kick plates.
Finding that grooved aluminium sheet could be a challenge.
The fine swedge around the edge would also be tricky to make - needs a special swedging wheel
Norman Julian
David Wilson thanks buddy.
That answers one question!
Norman Julian
David Wilson I have the die to do the edge.
That is the easy part!
David Wilson
make it about 3cm wider (and deeper) so that you can run the swedging wheel around it easily - then trim the excess.
Norman Julian
David Wilson yeah! These original ones are a little stepped down to the rest of the plate on the very edge.
If you do what you say than the outside edge would be level with the rest.
Than you can just cut off the excess. Got ya!
David Wilson
I got the grooved sheet years ago from inside an Adelaide three door bus that was being wrecked
